BMW i5 electric sedan launched in India at ₹1.2 crore
BMW has launched its i5 electric sedan in India. The premium EV is offered in a single M60 xDrive variant and costs ₹1.20 crore (ex-showroom). The vehicle is imported via the Completely Built-Up (CBU) route and fits between the i4 and i7 models in BMW's electric vehicle range in India. The i4 and i7 models are priced starting at ₹72.5lakh and ₹2.03 crore, respectively. The i5 is BMW's fifth EV in India, joining the iX1, iX XDrive50, i4, and i7.
BMW i5 electric sedan: Power and performance
The i5 is equipped with a powerful 601hp motor and an 83.9kWh battery, providing a range of 516km on a single charge. The battery powers two electric motors, one on each axle, delivering 795Nm of peak torque. BMW claims the i5 can accelerate from 0-100km/h in just 3.8 seconds and reach a top speed of 230km/h.
Charging capabilities and exterior features of BMW i5
The i5 comes with an 11kW wall charger while a 22kW AC charger is available as optional. It supports 205kW DC charger, which allows the battery to juice up from 10% to 80% in less than than 30 minutes. The India-specific i5 M60 xDrive features sportier alterations including a classic kidney grille with illumination, slim headlights with vertically stacked LED DRLs, larger intakes on the aggressive bumper, flush-fitting door handles, side skirts, new 20-inch alloy wheels, and thin LED tail-lamps.
BMW i5's interior and warranty details
The i5's cabin offers a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 14.9-inch infotainment touchscreen running BMW's latest iDrive 8.5 OS, introducing gaming and video functions for the first time. The car also includes sports seats finished with an active cooling function, a Bowers & Wilkins audio system, a panoramic sunroof, 4-zone climate control, and a 360-degree-view camera. BMW India offers a standard 2-year/unlimited kilometer warranty with the i5, while the battery comes with an extended 8-year/160,000km warranty.
