India-bound 2020 BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe breaks cover
German automaker BMW has pulled the covers off the 2020 BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe, its first-ever small four-door coupe. The premium car shares its mechanical underpinnings with the BMW 1 Series sedan and is available in three variants: 218i, 220d, and top-end M235i xDrive. Meanwhile, it is expected to hit Indian roads by 2020-21. Here's everything about it.
First, let's take a look at the car
The 2020 BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe features a premium design with BMW signature grille, pentagonal air-intakes, sleek headlamps, and indicator-mounted ORVMs. The chrome garnishing surrounding the windows, dual exhausts, and alloy wheels add to its premium stance. Also, the car gets an all-LED lighting setup as standard and has a boot space of 430 liters.
Inside the cabin
Inside, the 2 Series Gran Coupe comes with a 5-seater cabin featuring leather upholstery with chrome accents around the dashboard, three-spoke multifunctional steering wheel, ambient lighting, as well as an optional panoramic sunroof. Further, the car houses a digital instrument console, a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment panel, a 9.2-inch head-up display and supports features like Apple CarPlay, BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant, and BMW gesture control.
Power and performance
The 2020 2 Series Gran Coupe is being offered in three options: a 1.5-liter petrol, a 2.0-liter petrol, and a 2.0-liter diesel. The 1.5-liter and 2.0-liter petrol units churn out 140hp and 306hp of power, respectively. The 2.0-liter diesel mill, on the other hand, produces 190hp of power. Available in both manual and automatic transmissions, the car can do 0-100kmph in 4.9 seconds.
When will it come to India?
There is no word on the availability of 2020 BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe in India. However, according to Autocar, the premium coupe may arrive in the country sometime around 2020-21. As for the pocket pinch, it is likely to fall under Rs. 37-47 lakh price bracket and take on the likes of Audi A3 and Mercedes Benz A-Class.
