Bajaj Chetak electric scooter now available in 20 Indian cities
Bajaj Auto's Chetak electric scooter, which was launched in 2020, is now available in 20 cities across India. The two-wheeler was earlier limited to major metros like Delhi and Mumbai but the company has expanded its availability to 12 new cities, taking the total to 20. The Chetak can now be purchased in Coimbatore, Madurai, Kochi, Kozhikode, Hubli, Visakhapatnam, Nashik, Vasai, Surat, and Mapusa.
Why does this story matter?
At the end of 2021, the Bajaj Chetak e-scooter was available in eight cities. Six weeks into 2022, it has more than doubled that tally and is on track to being present in 30 cities by March. The company has announced a Rs. 300 crore investment to ramp up its electric vehicle production capacity, aiming to be a major player in the EV segment.
The scooter is offered in four shades
The Bajaj Chetak features a steel frame, an indicator-mounted front apron, an oval-shaped headlight, a flat single-piece seat with a storage compartment under it, a pillion grab rail, and a flat footboard. It offers a digital instrument console, an all-LED lighting setup, and rides on 12-inch alloy wheels. The e-scooter is available in several colors, including Indigo Metallic, Velutto Rosso, Brooklyn Black, and Hazelnut.
It packs an IP67-rated 3kWh battery
The Bajaj Chetak e-scooter draws power from a 3.8kW motor mated to a 3kWh IP67-rated Lithium-ion battery pack that provides a range of 95km in Eco mode. The powertrain churns out 5.4hp of maximum power and 16.2Nm of peak torque.
The two-wheeler has two riding modes
To ensure rider's safety, the Bajaj Chetak is equipped with a disc brake on the front, a drum brake on the rear, a combined braking system, as well as reverse assist. Suspension duties on the e-scooter are handled by leading-link forks on the front side and a mono-shock unit on the rear end. It also has two riding modes, namely Sport and Eco.
Bajaj Chetak electric scooter: Pricing and availability
As per the official website, in the newly added cities, only the Premium variant of the Bajaj Chetak electric scooter is available, which is priced at Rs. 1.48 lakh (ex-showroom). The two-wheeler can be booked via the website by paying Rs. 20,000.
