Bajaj Auto launches its iconic Chetak scooter in all-electric avatar
Foraying into the EV space, Bajaj Auto Ltd. has launched its first ever electric scooter, the all-new Chetak, in India today. The home-grown automaker has revived the Chetak brand, which was company's one of the most successful scooters for over three decades and also has a nostalgia value attached to it. Notably, the scooter will go on sale in the country starting January 2020.
First, here's a look at the all-new Bajaj Chetak
The all-new Bajaj Chetak comes with a metallic body featuring a retro-styled design with a rounded headlamp, black front grille, apron-mounted front indicators, and dual-tone grab rails. The e-scooter houses a fully-digital instrument console that can be paired with your smartphone using 'Chetak' app. Also, there is an all-LED lighting setup for headlight, turn indicators, and taillamps.
What about performance and range?
Bajaj Auto has not revealed much details about the power figures and motor specifications of the vehicle yet. However, we know that the e-scooter houses an IP67 rated swappable battery that promises a range of 95km and 85km in Eco and Sport modes, respectively.
And, what about the safety and suspension setup
In the braking department, the two-wheeler comes equipped with disc brakes on front wheel, drum brakes on rear wheel, along with regenerative braking system wherein the battery gets charged whenever the brakes are applied. To handle the suspension duties, the e-scooter houses single-sided suspension on the front and a monoshock unit on the rear.
Finally, what is the pricing?
As of now, Bajaj Auto has not revealed the pricing details. However, the company will launch the scooter at a competitive price to take on the offerings from Okinawa Scooters, Ather Energy, and Hero Electric.
