    What's the story

Bajaj Auto Ltd. has announced that it will commence the bookings for its recently unveiled e-scooter, Chetak, from January 2020.

The announcement comes just after the company has concluded the 3,000km 'Chetak Electric Yatra', which was flagged off when the scooter was first showcased in Delhi.

Notably, the automaker will also be providing a 3-year or 50,000km warranty on the two-wheeler.

    Here's our roundup.

    Design

Bajaj Chetak e-scooter: At a glance

The Bajaj Chetak sports a retro-styled design featuring a rounded headlamp, contoured seat, multi-spoke wheels, and dual-tone grab rail.

The e-scooter comes with hi-tech features like start-stop button, USB charging port, and a fully-digital instrument cluster that can also be paired with your smartphone using 'Chetak' app.

Apart from that, it gets an all-LED lighting setup for headlight, indicators, and taillamps.

    Internals

    Power and performance

Bajaj Chetak packs a 4kW motor which draws power from an IP67-rated Lithium-ion battery, that can be fueled up in 4.5-5 hours through household chargers.

The company has not provided a fast-charging option, claiming that it deteriorates the battery's life.

Moreover, the e-scooter offers a range of 85km and 95km in Sport and Eco modes, respectively.

    Safety

What about safety and suspension setup?

On the safety front, Bajaj Chetak comes equipped with disc and drum brakes on the front and rear wheel, respectively.

The scooter comes with regenerative braking system wherein the battery gets charged whenever the brakes are applied; and it offers reverse assist feature too.

The e-scooter houses single-sided swingarm suspension on the front and a monoshock unit on the rear.

    Information

And, how much will it cost?

As for the pocket pinch, Bajaj has revealed that the Chetak will be priced under Rs. 1.4 lakh in India. The bookings for the e-scooter will commence from January 2020 and the company will be selling it through KTM dealerships initially.
