Aston Martin's first EV delayed again: Check new launch timeline
What's the story
Aston Martin, the famous British carmaker, has delayed the launch of its first electric vehicle (EV).
The company's CEO Adrian Hallmark told Autocar that the first EV will now be launched before 2030.
This is the second delay in a year for the EV's debut, which was originally scheduled for 2025 but was later rescheduled to 2026.
Strategic shift
Aston Martin's EV strategy and hybrid focus
The last delay was blamed on falling EV demand, prompting Aston Martin to shift its focus toward plug-in hybrids (PHEVs). This was driven by the global surge in PHEV sales.
Details about the first Aston Martin EV, like if it would be a sports car or an SUV, are still under wraps.
Reports have revealed that the vehicle will have a front electric motor developed by Aston Martin and a rear motor from US-based Lucid Motors.
Hybrid growth
Aston Martin's hybrid expansion and future plans
Aston Martin, which unveiled its first hybrid, the Valhalla PHEV supercar, last year, intends to launch more fuel-efficient models.
These new hybrids will reportedly use powertrains developed by Mercedes-AMG.
Hallmark said the company's electrification pathway is "not as clear-cut as three or five years ago," but reiterated their commitment toward carbon neutrality or net zero emissions.
He also detailed plans for Aston Martin to go fully electric between 2035 and 2040.
