A6 Avant marks Audi's final diesel era
What's the story
Audi has unveiled its new A6 Avant, a model that marks a major shift in the company's vehicle lineup.
This executive wagon is one of the last diesel cars to be launched by Audi and one of the few remaining diesel estates on the market.
The car was originally slated to adopt an A7 moniker under Audi's now-defunct naming strategy.
However, it retains its name as A6 Avant and stands alongside the unrelated A6 Avant E-Tron EV.
Engine specifications
A6 Avant boasts hybrid powertrains
The new A6 Avant comes with turbo petrol and turbo diesel hybrid powertrains.
The petrol variant, badged TFSI, and the diesel model, marked as TDI, are powered by 2.0-liter four-cylinder engines delivering 201hp of power.
The petrol version offers a torque of 340Nm while the diesel variant delivers a higher 400Nm.
Both engines are mated to an automatic gearbox only, while the diesel is also offered with Quattro all-wheel-drive tech.
Design upgrades
A6 Avant features enhanced aesthetics and tech
The new A6 Avant is a major aesthetic departure from its predecessor, sporting a sportier look more similar to the old S6 model.
The front has been heavily revamped with Audi rings now straddling a new-look grille and bonnet lip, a first on an A6 model.
The estate is 60mm longer than its predecessor at 4,990mm, with a raked-back roofline leading to sculpted rear end dominated by an eye-catching light bar.
Interior upgrades
A6 Avant's interior and performance enhancements
The new A6 Avant's interior mirrors much of Audi's range, with three screens: 11.0-inch driver's display, 14.5-inch infotainment touchscreen, and an optional 10.9-inch passenger screen.
The model also features a 'dynamic' sunroof, which can be switched between translucent and clear modes at the press of a button.
Audi says the new A6 Avant is better to drive than its predecessor with several performance enhancements like a stiffened torsion bar and control arm bushings for improved road feedback and steering response.
Market availability
Audi A6 Avant's pricing and future models
The new A6 Avant will be priced from £52,510 (approx. ₹60.2 lakh), going up to £64,480 (around ₹73.7 lakh) in TDI Quattro guise with Edition One trim.
Audi has not revealed the exact India launch date yet but we expect a sedan version of the A6 Avant to be launched soon.
The new S6 Avant model is also expected to debut in some markets soon, packing a 362hp, 3.0-liter turbo V6 petrol hybrid engine.
