Maruti Suzuki has launched the fourth-generation Swift hatchback in India today. Priced starting at ₹6.5 lakh (ex-showroom) for the base model, it is set to rival popular models like Tata Tiago and Hyundai Grand i10 Nios. The top variant, ZXi+ AT, comes with a price tag of ₹9.65 lakh (ex-showroom). The 2024 Swift boasts a slew of changes, including a fresh design, enhanced safety and tech features, and a new engine that promises better fuel efficiency than the outgoing model.
Maruti Swift's production and design details
The 2024 Maruti Swift is manufactured at the Suzuki Motor's Gujarat plant, following an investment of ₹1,450 crore. The design retains the iconic MINI Cooper silhouette associated with the Swift nameplate. The exterior features a clamshell type hood, a larger grill, sportier bumper, LED projector headlights and LED fog lamps. A new alloy wheel design and fresh cuts in the sheet metal profiling give it a robust look.
2024 Maruti Swift boasts modern interior features
The interior of the new Swift has been upgraded with a host of modern features. The dashboard now accommodates a 9-inch free-standing infotainment screen that supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay wirelessly. Additional features include a wireless charger, Arkamys-tuned sound system, USB Type-A and Type-C ports, Suzuki Connect telematics and for the first time in Swift's history, rear AC vents.
Enhanced safety features standard in 2024 Maruti Swift
Safety has been prioritized in all variants of the new Swift, with each model equipped with six standard airbags. Other safety equipment includes ABS, EBD, BA, 3-point seatbelts and seat belt reminders. The vehicle is expected to undergo crash testing by Bharat NCAP soon.
2024 Maruti Swift sports new engine and improved performance
The 2024 Maruti Swift houses a new 1.2L Z12E 3-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine, replacing the previous 1.2L K12 4-cylinder petrol engine. Despite lower performance metrics on paper (80hp/ 112Nm torque), the new engine promises to deliver more mileage at 25.72km/l. The vehicle offers gearbox options of a 5-speed manual and a 5-speed AMT. Maruti claims that the new Swift provides improved low end torque, better acceleration, and an enhanced suspension system for superior driving comfort.
