India-bound Maruti Suzuki Swift breaks cover at Japan Mobility Show
Maruti Suzuki's all-new Swift has made its debut at the 2023 Japanese Mobility Show, revealing a refined design and enhanced technology. Slated for launch in India in late 2024, the fourth-generation hatchback will be entirely produced on our shores for domestic as well as international markets. Competing with the likes of Hyundai Grand i10 NIOS, Citroen C3, and Tata Tiago, the new model is set to make waves in our market.
The hatchback features an evolutionary design, retaining the overall silhouette
Retaining its signature look, the fourth-generation Swift showcases a modernized design. The front now features a chrome grille with an innovative mesh pattern, replacing the previous model's horizontal bars. The side profile preserves the classic silhouette, with two notable updates: second-row handles repositioned on the door and a fresh design for the 16-inch wheels. The taillamps keep their original shape but now include a black border, a revamped layout, and full LED capabilities.
It gets an upgraded cabin with a better safety kit
Although a significant cabin revamp was anticipated, Maruti Suzuki chose to enhance existing elements such as the instrument cluster, steering wheel, buttons, touch surfaces, and center console. The interiors now boast a redesigned dashboard, air conditioning console, and an all-new 10-inch infotainment panel with connectivity options. The Japanese-spec vehicle offers an array of updated features like a new operating system for the infotainment system, Level-2 ADAS, an all-LED lighting setup, and various safety enhancements.
It will likely retain the same 1.2-liter K-series engine
The hybrid model displayed at the mobility show will differ from the Indian market version, which will be equipped with a familiar 1.2-liter K-Series petrol engine generating 90hp/113Nm. The mill will paired with either a five-speed manual gearbox or a five-speed automated manual transmission (AMT). This engine is likely to incorporate mild-hybrid technology and CNG compatibility. With the carmaker's investment in biogas technology, this option may also be available in the future.
