Mercedes-Maybach S-Class to be launched in India on March 3
German automaker Mercedes-Benz will launch the new version of its Maybach S‑Class in India on March 3. It should be offered in two variants: S 580 and S 680. As for the highlights, the car has a regal look and a plush cabin with a long list of equipment. It is available with a choice of V8 and V12 engines.
Why does this story matter?
The new-generation Mercedes-Maybach S-Class was introduced in the global markets in November 2020. The four-wheeler offers better looks, more space, and extra features as compared to the regular S-Class. Once the vehicle arrives in India, it is likely to rack up decent sales and the competition in the luxury car segment will be raised to a great extent.
The car has a chrome-finished grille and 21-inch wheels
The Mercedes-Maybach S-Class sports a large chromed grille with vertical slats, sleek LED headlights, and chrome-finished air vents. On the sides, it is flanked by chrome-finished B-pillars, narrow ORVMs, "Maybach" logos on the C-pillars, and 21-inch alloy wheels. Wrap-around LED taillights and chrome-coated exhaust tips grace the rear end. Dimensions-wise, it has a 180mm longer wheelbase than the V223 S-Class.
Two engine choices should be offered in India
In India, Mercedes-Maybach S-Class should run on a 4.0-liter V8 engine that makes 503hp/700Nm, linked to a 48V mild-hybrid system, and a 6.0-liter V12 mill that generates 612hp/900Nm. Transmission duties will be handled by a 9-speed automatic gearbox.
The sedan gets powered rear seats and 5 screens
Mercedes-Maybach S-Class has an opulent 4-seater cabin, featuring powered individual rear seats, a head-up display, multiple airbags, a 30-speaker Burmester audio system, and a multifunctional steering wheel. It gets an MBUX infotainment system and has five screens, including a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 12.8-inch screen at the front, two 11.6-inch rear-seat entertainment monitors, and a removable tablet placed between the rear seats.
Mercedes-Maybach S-Class: Pricing and availability
In India, the S 580 variant of the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class should be locally assembled, while the S 680 model is tipped to arrive as a completely-built unit (CBU). The vehicle will likely cost over Rs. 2 crore (ex-showroom).
