2021 Hyundai Elantra first impression: New design and more features
Hyundai is not giving up on sedans as it plans to introduce the new-generation Elantra in India around mid-2021. The premium sedan gets significant improvements including a new design language, refreshed interiors, a bunch of new features, and a performance upgrade in the form of a more powerful petrol engine. Here is our first impression of the 2021 Elantra.
2021 Hyundai Elantra: At a glance
The 2021 Elantra is based on a new platform which makes it lighter than its predecessor and adds more rigidity. It is longer than the existing model by 56mm while also being wider by 26mm. Changes in the styling include a much bigger cascading grille along with new LED headlamps, redesigned bumpers, a full-width taillight, and new 17-inch alloy wheels.
Inside the cabin
Hyundai has also completely overhauled the cabin with more technology and features being added into the mix. The design is similar to the new Creta with a 4-spoke steering wheel and two 10.25-inch touchscreen panels merged together. There is also more space on offer while the equipment list includes features like an electric sunroof, ventilated seats, connected car technology, and ambient lighting.
Under the hood
While globally the new Elantra gets a hybrid powertrain, India will most likely get a 2.0-liter petrol and a 1.5-liter diesel engine with both manual and automatic gearboxes. Hyundai could also launch the car with a turbo-petrol motor linked to a dual-clutch automatic gearbox. The 2021 Elantra also offers drive modes while the new platform will add to its overall driving dynamics.
How much will it cost?
We expect the 2021 Elantra to be launched by the end of July. An increase in its pricing is also expected considering the nifty updates. That said, with its fresh styling and feature-rich cabin, the new-generation model has what it takes to breathe new life into the premium sedan segment. As for the pocket-pinch, expect it to start at around Rs. 18 lakh (ex-showroom).
