Yamaha launches 2020 YZF-R15 in India at Rs. 1.45 lakh
Japanese automaker Yamaha has launched the 2020 edition of its popular sports bike, the YZF-R15, in India at Rs. 1.45 lakh. The new model looks largely similar to the outgoing variant, but comes with a BS6-compliant engine and produces marginally lesser power than the latter. Meanwhile, the bookings for the bike are currently live and the deliveries are slated to commence from next week.
A look at the 2020 YZF-R15
The 2020 YZF-R15 sits on the delta box chassis and features a fully-faired sporty design with beefy front apron as well as side fairings, muscular-looking fuel tank, and stepped-up seats. The motorcycle, which is available in three color options: grey, black, and blue, houses a tall windshield and blacked-out alloy wheels (body-colored wheels on blue color model) with radial tires on the rear.
The motorcycle is now BS6-compliant
The 2020 YZF-R15 is powered by the same 155cc liquid-cooled, four-stroke engine that is present on the outgoing model. However, this unit is updated as per BS6 norms and it now produces 18.3bhp of maximum power and 14.1Nm of peak torque. The transmission duties on the motorcycle are handled by a six-speed manual gearbox.
What about safety and suspension setup?
On the safety front, the 2020 Yamaha YZF-R15 comes equipped with disc brakes on both the front and rear wheels, along with dual-channel ABS for better grip on the road. The motorcycle houses conventional telescopic forks up front and a swing-arm with mono-shock absorber on the rear to handle the suspension duties.
And, what about pricing?
As for the pocket pinch, the 2020 Yamaha YZF-R15 is priced at Rs. 1.45 lakh in India, which is Rs. 3,000 costlier than the outgoing model. At this price point, the motorcycle takes on the likes of KTM RC 125 and Bajaj Pulsar RS 200.
