Czech automaker Skoda has taken the wraps off the 2020 edition of its popular sedan, the Rapid. The new model gets a bunch of styling as well as feature updates and looks sportier and more appealing than the outgoing model. Reportedly, the car is likely to hit the Indian roads in 2021. A look at the 2020 Skoda Rapid
The 2020 Skoda Rapid offers a sporty design featuring a similar front fascia as its cousin, the Scala hatchback. The car comes with company's signature butterfly grille surrounded by chrome highlights, and a new muscular-looking front bumper with sculpted lines. Besides that, it houses blacked-out indicator-mounted ORVMs, alloy wheels, projector headlights with LED DRLs and LED taillamps.
Inside the cabin
Inside, the five-seater 2020 Rapid offers a luxurious cabin with leather upholstery, automatic climate control, and a leather-wrapped three-spoke multifunctional steering wheel with cruise control. The car houses a new fully-digital instrument cluster and a 6.5 to 8-inch infotainment panel with connectivity features. Furthermore, it gets standard safety features including driver and passenger airbags, ABS with EBD, front and rear parking sensors, among others.
Power and performance
Internationally, the 2020 Skoda Rapid will offer 1.6-liter naturally aspirated and 1.4-liter turbocharged engine options. However, the India-specific model is likely to come with a 1.0-liter TSI engine which is capable of producing 115PS of power and 220Nm of peak torque. The transmission duties on the car are taken care of by a 5-speed manual or an automatic gearbox.
When will it come to India?
According to reports, the 2020 Skoda Rapid will go on sale in European markets in Q1 2020. As for the India availability, the car is likely to hit our shores in 2021. Once launched, it will go up against rivals such as Volkswagen Vento, 2020 Honda City, Hyundai Verna, and Maruti Suzuki Ciaz.
