2020 Royal Enfield Thunderbird 350 to be launched by February
Royal Enfield is likely to launch the 2020 Thunderbird in India "in next three months" i.e. by February next year, according to GaadiWaadi.com. The updated model will come with several styling tweaks, revised ergonomics, and a new BS6-compliant engine. The report claims that the company will update only the 350cc model and discontinue the 500cc range due to high upgradation cost and low sales.
How will it look like?
The upcoming Royal Enfield Thunderbird will sit on a new double-cradle frame and feature a naked street design with slightly tweaked ergonomics to offer a more relaxed sitting position. It will also come with a sloping fuel tank, rounded headlamp, mirrors as well as indicators, and a chrome-finished exhaust. Furthermore, the motorcycle is expected to house halogen headlamps, turn indicators, and LED taillight.
Power and performance
Going by the report, the upcoming Thunderbird will be powered by an upgraded 346cc BS6-compliant engine with a fuel injection system instead of a carburettor unit. The power figures of the upgraded unit are not known as of now. However, in the present state of tune, the engine churns out 20.07PS of maximum power at 5,250rpm and 28Nm of peak torque at 4,000rpm.
What about safety and suspension setup
In the safety department, the 2020 Royal Enfield Thunderbird will come equipped with disc brakes on both front and rear wheels, along with dual-channel ABS for improved braking efficiency. The motorcycle will house telescopic forks on the front along with gas-charged five-step adjustable dual-shock unit on the rear to handle the suspension duties.
Finally, how much will it cost?
There is no word on the pricing of 2020 Royal Enfield Thunderbird as of now. However, reports suggest that the motorcycle will come at a premium of Rs. 15,000-20,000 over the existing model which costs Rs. 1.64 lakh. Once launched, the cruiser will give a tough competition to Bajaj Dominar 400 and Mahindra Mojo 300 ABS.
