2020 Mahindra Thar, the iconic off-roader that was supposed to debut at the 2020 Auto Expo, is expected to be launched in India in the coming months. A camouflaged test mule of the SUV has been spotted, giving us an idea of the updated looks. Reportedly, it will be offered with BS6-compliant petrol and diesel engines.
2020 Mahindra Thar: At a glance
Going by the spy shots, the 2020 Thar will retain the iconic retro design of the outgoing model and will come with a boxy look, square-ish windows as well as wheel arches, and bulbous headlamps. But, the new model will be comparatively bigger in size and will get newly-designed alloy wheels. Moreover, it will be offered with both soft and hard roof options.
Inside the cabin
The new Mahindra Thar will get a major update in terms of interiors. It will come with a six-seater cabin featuring a blacked-out dashboard, redesigned AC vents, and a new multifunctional steering wheel. The SUV will also house a new instrument cluster as well as a touchscreen infotainment panel. Besides that, it will retain the safety features of the outgoing model.
Power and performance
Under the hood, the 2020 Mahindra Thar will be offered with BS6-compliant petrol as well as diesel engine options. The petrol variant will house a 2.0-liter mStallion unit, while the diesel-based model will get a 2.2-liter mill. At present, the SUV is offered with a 2.5-liter diesel engine that makes 105bhp of power and 247Nm of peak torque.
Finally, what will be the pricing?
There is no official word on the pricing of the 2020 Mahindra Thar as of now. But looking at the updates, it is likely to carry a significant premium over the outgoing model that starts at Rs. 9.59 lakh.
