2019 EICMA show: Kawasaki unveils updated Z900 superbike
Japanese automaker Kawasaki has unveiled the 2020 edition of its popular sports tourer, the Z900. The updated model comes with a bunch of visual updates including a new 'Sugomi' design (which mimics an animal ready to pounce) and improved electronic aids. However, mechanically, it remains the same as the outgoing variant. Here's all about it.
First, here's a look at the 2020 Kawasaki Z900
The 2020 Kawasaki Z900 sports a naked street design featuring an all-new front apron, muscular-looking fuel tank with longer extensions, and dual-tone body color. Besides that, the motorcycle also gets a new 4.3-inch TFT instrument cluster which can be paired with your smartphone via Bluetooth; and new set of LED headlights as well as taillamps.
Power and performance
The 2020 Kawasaki Z900 is powered by a 948cc, Euro 5/BS6-compliant engine which comes mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox. This unit is capable of producing 125PS of maximum power at 9,500rpm and 99Nm of peak torque at 7,700rpm.
2020 Kawasaki Z900: On the road
The 2020 Kawasaki Z900 comes equipped with disc brakes on both wheels along with dual-channel ABS to avoid skidding while braking. The motorcycle also gets electronic riding aids such as three-level traction control and three riding modes: Sport, Road, and Rain. Moreover, it houses upside-down forks on the front along with a monoshock unit on the rear for improved damping control.
And, when will it come to India?
There is no word on the availability of the Kawasaki Z900 in India. However, considering that it complies with Euro 5 emission norms (equivalent to upcoming BS6 norms), we expect it to hit the Indian roads sometime in mid-2020. As for the pocket pinch, it is likely to carry a premium over the existing model which is available at Rs. 7.7 lakh.
