Indian Motorcycle launches 2020 Challenger cruiser motorcycles: Details here
US-based Indian Motorcycle has launched the all-new Challenger range of cruiser bikes in its home country. The line-up comprises three models: the Challenger, Challenger Dark Horse, and Challenger Limited. Apart from the powerful 1,769cc PowerPlus engine, the motorcycles also come loaded with a bunch of hi-tech features including customizable riding modes and 100W sound system. Here's our roundup.
First, let's take a look at the motorcycles
The Indian Challenger models feature a semi-faired design with a stepped-up seat, power-adjustable windscreen, and a pair of all-weatherproof saddlebags with over 68-liters of storage. On the front, there is a central round headlamp along with LEDs and intake vents on the outside. The motorcycles also get a fully-digital instrument console along with touchscreen infotainment, USB connectivity, and a Bluetooth-enabled 100W audio system.
How do they differ from each other?
Even though the three motorcycles look similar to each other, the more premium Dark Horse and Limited models get some exclusive features such as traction control, drag torque control system, and a six-axis IMU.
Power and performance
The Indian Challenger motorcycles draw power from a 1,769cc liquid-cooled, PowerPlus engine, which is capable of producing 121bhp of power at 5,500rpm and 173.5Nm of peak torque at 3,800rpm. For transmission duties, they house a six-speed manual gearbox, along with an assist clutch for improved gear shifting. The bikes also offer three riding modes: Rain, Standard, and Sport.
What about safety and suspension setup?
In the safety department, the Challenger models come equipped with Brembo-sourced 320mm disc brake on the front, 298mm disc brake on the rear, along with dual-channel ABS for better grip on the road. To handle suspension duties, the motorcycles house 43mm inverted telescopic forks on the front and a gas-charged monoshock unit on the rear.
And, what about pricing?
At present, there is no official word on the pricing and availability of the Challenger models in India. However, according to some reports, the motorcycles are likely to arrive in the country by mid-2020 at a starting price of around Rs. 25 lakh.
