Hyundai to launch diesel-powered Elantra in India soon: Details here
South Korean automaker Hyundai is working on launching a diesel-powered variant of its premium sedan, the Elantra, in India sometime soon. The upcoming model will reportedly pack a BS6-compliant 1.5-liter diesel engine that is currently used in Hyundai's sibling Kia's Seltos. To recall, the facelifted model, with petrol engine and BlueLink connected car technology, was launched in India last year. Here's our roundup.
A look at the Hyundai Elantra
The diesel-based version of the Elantra will look similar to its petrol counterpart. The car will sport an eye-catching design featuring an angular-looking front fascia with a hexagonal grille, a muscular front bonnet, and triangular LED headlamps as well as fog lamp housings. Further, the sedan will feature an attractive side profile with chrome highlights around the windows, indicator-mounted ORVMs, and blacked-out B-pillars.
Inside the cabin
Much like the petrol model, the diesel-powered Elantra would sport a five-seater dual-tone cabin with ventilated front seats, leather upholstery, and a panoramic sunroof. The car would offer an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment panel with Android Auto and Apple-carplay'>Apple CarPlay support as well as BlueLink connected car technology. Moreover, it is likely to get the same safety features as its petrol-based sibling.
Power and performance
Going by the reports, the diesel-based Elantra would draw power from a BS6-compliant 1.5-liter engine that is currently used in Kia Seltos and would also be used in 2020 Creta. The motor is likely to churn out 115hp of maximum power and 250Nm of peak torque. Further, it would be offered with both 6-speed manual or automatic gearbox options.
And, how much will it cost?
Hyundai will reveal the official pricing and availability details of the 2020 Elantra diesel in India sometime soon. However, reports suggest that the upcoming car is likely to be priced under Rs. 16-21 lakh price bracket.
