2019 Hyundai Elantra Facelift spotted in India, launch imminent
South Korean automaker Hyundai is gearing up to launch the 2019 Hyundai Elantra Facelift in India sometime around October 2019. In the recent development, a test mule of the premium sedan was spotted in Hyderabad, confirming its arrival in the country. The new Elantra has received some design and feature upgrades. However, it is mechanically the same as the existing model. Here's more.
Let's take a look at the sedan
When talking about exteriors, the 2019 Elantra has received a bunch of design upgrades. It sports a cascading grille with redesigned front and rear bumpers, triangular LED headlamps, new alloy wheels, and a revamped bonnet. On the rear side, the premium sedan features a restyled boot lid along with the LED taillamps and fog lamps.
Inside the cabin
Inside, the five-seater Elantra sports a new cabin with redesigned seats and a new multifunctional steering wheel. The cabin comes with an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment panel with support for connectivity features like navigation, voice control, Android Auto, and Apple CarPlay. Furthermore, the sedan also gets wireless charging support, keyless ignition, and climate control.
Power and performance
The 2019 Elantra retains the mechanical specifications of the current model. Hence, it will be available in two engine options: a 2.0-liter petrol engine and a 1.6-liter diesel unit. The petrol mill churns out 149.5PS power at 6,200rpm and 192Nm of peak torque at 4,000rpm. On the other hand, the diesel-based engine makes 128PS power at 4,000rpm and 260Nm of torque at 1,900-2,750rpm.
2019 Hyundai Elantra: On the road
The 2019 Hyundai Elantra Facelift gets Hyundai SmartSense safety package which comes with a bunch of driver-assist features such as Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist, Lane Keep Assist, and Driver Attention Alert. The sedan comes equipped with six airbags along with the front seat belt warning and a speed alert system. For parking assistance, it offers a 360-degree camera, front sensors, and a rearview camera.
And, what about pricing?
In India, the 2019 Hyundai Elantra is expected to be priced under Rs. 14-20 lakh bracket. However, the official details will be revealed during the launch event itself. At this price range, the sedan will go up against rivals such as Honda Civic, Skoda Octavia, Toyota Corolla, and Maruti Suzuki Ciaz.
