The BMW S1000RR is a true embodiment of world-class German engineering. First introduced in 2008 by BMW Motorrad to compete in the 2009 Superbike World Championship, it is now available commercially. The sportbike spearheaded the 200hp era and it continues to be one of the most sought after models even a decade later. Here, we take a closer look at the 2019 S1000RR.
BMW S1000RR: Design
2019 S1000RR, the third-generation of the superbike, has received some meaningful design changes. Firstly, the new model is claimed to be 11kg lighter than the previous one, putting the kerb weight at 197kg. The steering is also lighter than before and the weight distribution has been improved from 52.3% to 53.8%. The new model also gets twin LED lights and mirror-mounted indicators.
Engine and power
The 2019 S1000R is powered by a 999cc engine that is capable of making 207hp of power - 8hp more than its predecessor. This has allowed the superbike to be one second a lap faster than its predecessor. The company has also introduced a variable camshaft technology wherein different camshafts with customized profiles are electronically engaged at certain revs to offer better power output.
On the road
BMW has marginally reduced the front forks to further save weight and introduced a new linkage system that improves the stroke of the shock. There's also Dynamic Damping Control that can readjust the suspension in just 10ms, turning in the damping for every individual bump. The bike also gets a new ABS Pro that adjusts the level of ABS depending on the lean angle.
In India, the 2019 S100RR starts at Rs. 18.50 lakh
In India, the 2019 BMW S1000RR starts at Rs. 18.50 lakh for its base-end model, and the mid-end Pro model is priced at Rs. 20.95 lakh. The company is also offering a top-end M Package which costs Rs. 22.95 lakh (all prices ex-showroom).
